46 The Bible and the Future of the World
My Food (John 4:31 38)
But he said to them, `I have food to eat of which you do not know.' So
the disciples said to one another, `Has any one brought him food?' Jesus said
to them, `My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish
his work.' (John 4:32 34).
During the years of the Church's Crucifixion, the time of the Church's
greatest suffering, the food of the faithful will be to do God's will. At that
time, for a while, the faithful will be mostly deprived of the Holy Eucharist,
that most perfect food. They will eat the bread of obedience to God and
make purely spiritual communions with Jesus. Why? Because the spiritual
harvest is near (John 4:35).
The loss of the Holy Mass and the Holy Eucharist (in most places on
earth) is a punishment from God because of the many serious sins of
Christians. But, after the time of great suffering, the Church shall again be
renewed, again be transfigured. All divisions shall cease, and the Holy Mass
and the Holy Eucharist will be fully restored to the Church.
The Bread of Life (John 6)
`I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of
this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life
of the world is my flesh.'
The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, `How can this man
give us his flesh to eat?' So Jesus said to them, `Truly, truly, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no
life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I
will raise him up at the last day.' (John 6:51 54).
This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. Many of his
disciples, when they heard it, said, `This is a hard saying; who can listen to
it?' (John 6:59 60).
After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with
him. (John 6:66).
Jesus teaches the people about His Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist.
This causes a controversy among the Jews and also among some of Jesus'
disciples. Some of the disciples refuse to believe that Jesus is the Bread of
Life. They don't understand this teaching. They fall away from Jesus
because of their refusal to believe this teaching. Jesus taught this doctrine at
Capernaum.
These events foreshadow future events in the Church. Before the start of
the reign of the Antichrist, the Church will reaffirm Jesus' teaching about
the Real and Complete Presence of Jesus Christ, Body and Blood, Soul and
