The  M  indicator appears in the upper left of the display
when there is any value other than zero stored in
independent memory.
  Independent memory contents are maintained even if you
press the A key, change the calculation mode, or turn
off the calculator.
A Calculation Examples Using Independent
Memory
  If the  M  indicator is on the display, perform the procedure
under  Clearing Independent Memory  before performing
this example.
Example:
23 + 9 = 32
23+9m
53   6 = 47
53 6m
 ) 45   2 = 90
45*21m(M )

A Clearing Independent Memory
1. 0

  This clears independent memory and causes the  M 
indicator to disappear from the display.
