Chapter 4 Managing Devices
Device Management
Step 2
Select a filter value, then click Filter.
Only the devices, services, interfaces you have selected will appear.
Adding Devices
There are two ways that you can add devices for Hosting Solution Engine
monitoring: manually and by discovery using Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP).
Because CDP impacts performance, it is turned off by default. If you choose to
leave CDP off or if the device you want to manage does not support CDP, you
must add the devices manually.
If your device supports CDP, you can add this
seed
device (or set of seed devices
and its CDP enabled device neighbors are discovered during the discovery
process.
The following do not support CDP and must be added as seed devices:
LocalDirector
PIX Firewall
Content Services Switch
Note
By default, the Hosting Solution Engine's external IP address will appear as a
seed.
You can specify multiple
seed
 devices to:
Discover disconnected networks if you want to discover devices across
links on which you have disabled CDP or where the devices are outside the
firewall.
Discover devices that are not CDP enabled.
You can add devices by:
Adding Seed Devices, page 4 6
or
