When registering a GP for the first time, a pop up hyperlink is available from these two
fields to help you to find the real National Code and check digit for a GP. The hyperlink
is displayed by placing the cursor in either of the two fields, and pressing the key
combination used at your organisation. Normally, this key combination will consist of
pressing the

keys at the same time if you are working on a
PC. However, the key combination which is used at your organisation will depend upon
local keyboard mappings.
If you now click on this hyperlink with your left hand mouse button, your internet
browser will connect you to the OCS web site where there is a search facility allowing
you to search for the GP's National Code. Any Surname, Forenames and Postcode
information entered on the GD screen may automatically be used in this search. The
search should allow you to ascertain the code for the GP (consisting of the character `G'
followed by 7 numerical digits). The 7 digit number returned by the search contains the
GP's National Code as the first 6 digits, with the check digit as the seventh and last
number. The GP's National Code is not automatically inserted on the GD screen: you
will have to make a note of it and enter it manually.
