Device Redundancy Configuration Examples

The CSS management interface IP is not routable, so at least one HSE interface 

needs to be in the same subnet in order to manage the redundant CSS pair. 

In this example, the device community string and credentials are the same on both 

devices.

Procedure

Step 1

Select Devices >Device Management > Device Manager, then click Add to add 

your seed devices.

Step 2

Select the CSS device type and enter two management interface IP addresses in 

the IP address text box. Then click Next. The SNMP Community Strings dialog 

box appears. 

Tip

The CSS management interface is not routable, so the Hosting Solution Engine 

must be on the same subnet as the CSS management interface. If you are not sure 

about how to determine the management interface of the CSS device, see the CSS 

documentation on Cisco.com.

Step 3

Enter the SNMP community string information for these devices. If they are not 

the same, you must enter the devices into the Add form one at a time. Click Next. 

The Set Credentials dialog box appears.

Step 4

Enter the user and password credential information. Then click Next.

Select the HTTPS option to curb network traffic. HSE checks to ensure this device 

is running HTTPS.

Step 5

To validate device credentials, select the check box, then click Next or Finish. If 

you do not select to validate, the device is added but you may be unable to use the 

other features that require credentials.

Step 6

To add device summary information as displayed, click Finish.

If the seed devices were added successfully, the Device Manager window appears 

and the devices will appear with Undiscovered status. If the seed devices were not 

added, an error message appears. Check to be sure the device type is correct and 

that the device is reachable from the Hosting Solution Engine. See

Step 7

Select Devices >Device Management > Device Redundancy. Click Add. The 

CSS Devices window appears.
